Story
A tyrannical landlady lords over her tenants during an epidemic, pitting them against each other in a web of paranoia designed for deadly results. BayView Entertainment released the low-budget film “Hemet, or the Landlady Don’t Drink Tea” on digital and VOD platforms on November 26th and I finally got around to watching it at 5am today.
If you like dark, slightly raunchy humor and don’t mind some over-the-top social and political jabs, then Hemet is definitely worth a look
This film has really carved out a niche for itself: you could call it a dirty slasher drama and that pretty much sums up the wild ride it offers. I found myself both entertained and laughing at the mix of raunchy jokes and clever satire that was so bad it somehow worked in its favor.
For me, the highlight of Hemet is Brian Patrick Butler’s performance as Liz
Directed by Tony Olmos and written by Brian Patrick Butler, the film centers on an odd group of people forced to live in a rundown apartment building run by the deranged Liz, played by Butler in drag with lots of makeup. She keeps her tenants, Martin (Merrick McCartha), Gary (Matthew Rhodes), Howie (Pierce Wallace), and Tank (Nick Young), under control with threats of eviction, rent increases, or the loss of perks like their parking spots.
