A Landman, at least one who works in the petroleum industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. A landowner’s role is usually to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners who own mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

They essentially manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, living quarters for workers (man-camp), assemble earthmoving machines, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixers, problem solvers and facilitators.

The main story so far has been engaging and exciting without being overly pretentious

episode (2022). Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the expectations that come with being a Yellowstone fan. There are a few subplots that carry the episodes well, but one of them perhaps compromises the overall quality of the show.

The actors detail their characters well

I’m sure you can guess which one! The visual production is remarkable; direction and environment creation should be enjoyed. It would be interesting to hear the opinions of people working in the industry on how realistic the on-location scenes are.

Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really carries the show well

Overall a very good series, visually well executed and superbly acted.
